As I recall, Hoskins's performance as Harold Shand in The Long Good Friday is among the great performances by any actor in the history of the movies. I watched Friday on videotape, after reading a positive review. To my Canadian ears, the London accents were so difficult to make out that Friday counted for me as a foreign film. Nevertheless, I found myself watching it over and over, because Hoskins was so compelling in it.
This is the only movie I have seen where a short, thickset, balding man is paired with a good-looking woman, and I ended up thinking the woman was the one who was outclassed in terms of erotic appeal. That little Cockney nail barrel was utterly dynamic. |

| You should check out Bob in 'Mona Lisa' too, he really does play the part well. |

I'm glad you agree
I do have bad news though, I read on the BFI website some time ago that the film is going to be remade in the... wait for it... USA!!!
This really pissed me off. They have already ruined 'Get Carter' and 'The Wicker Man', why not stop there!!! |

I love the "I'm 'ere to 'elp you, Bryant" in the Trailer. Always sends a shiver down my spine.
